05 May 2008 :: Real Madrid are CHAMPIONS!!!!

"We are very happy because most of the game was drawn 0-0, but Higuaín's last-minute goal made us burst with joy. We want to celebrate winning the title."

CASILLAS
“We are extremely happy because we were level and then managed to win in the last minute thanks to Higuaín. All we want to do now is celebrate.”

“It was an uphill battle after Osasuna scored. A draw would have been a good result because we would have only needed one more point to be champions. Higuaín's goal was incredible. I still feel like I am dreaming.”

“It wasn't the warmest of celebrations being that we won the league away from home, but now we can go back to Madrid to celebrate with our fans.”

03 May 2008 :: "We only think about winning"
Iker Casillas talked to the press two days before the crucial match with Osasuna.

Do you all want this to end soon?
:: I do. The sooner the better. It seems we will win the title on Sunday, but we have to be patient and wait. We are only thinking about winning the game. We would have all liked to win last week at home, but it is natural for Villarreal to still do everything they can to catch us.

03 May 2008 :: "We must win whenever we can and use our chances well"
Iker Casillas is very close to winning the Zamora Trophy, especially after saving a penalty against Athletic Bilbao. In an interview to AS, he said he only thinks about winning the league title.

Were you sad for not winning the League on Sunday at the Bernabéu?
:: We would've all liked to celebrate the title with our fans, but the important thing is to win no matter where, and we still haven't done that.

03 May 2008 :: Iker Casillas closing in on Zamora trophy
Half a league posting shutouts

With four games remaining, Iker Casillas tops the Zamora ranking having only conceded 30 goals this season. What's even more impressive, the Madridista keeper notched his 17th shutout of the season on Sunday.

Iker Casillas has conceded only 30 goals in 34 matches this season (0.88 gpm) and is the leading candidate for the Zamora trophy, which he has never won since debuting with Real Madrid's first team in 1999.

01 May 2008 :: Casillas: It Was A Strange Day
Los Merengues knew before kick off that they could not win the title after Villarreal's victory at Real Betis and he was not happy that thrill had been removed.

Madrid can win the league next weekend, but could be proclaimed as champions before they even kick a ball in Pamplona, which Casillas thinks would not be the best.

29 Apr 2008 :: Casillas inspires Madrid success
A wonderful penalty save from Iker Casillas was the highlight of Real Madrid CF's 3-0 victory against Athletic Club Bilbao as the champions re-established a ten-point lead in Spain following an earlier victory for Villarreal CF on Sunday.

29 Apr 2008 :: CASILLAS: Title is my priority
Real Madrid number one Iker Casillas insists he values team success above individual accolades despite being on course to win the award for the leading goalkeeper in La Liga.

Casillas has conceded just 30 goals in 33 matches to lead the race to win the Zamora trophy, with Barcelona's Victor Valdes a close second after letting in 31 goals in 33 games.

The Zamora trophy is awarded to the goalkeeper who, after having played a certain number of fixtures, holds the best goals-against per match ratio at the end of the season.

Casillas has never won the award, but the Spain international insists he would still pick Primera Liga title success every time.

"Clearly winning the Zamora is a very nice prize, but I prefer prizes at a collective level. The work of the team is more important," he said in AS.

"If I am able to win the league as well as the Zamora, then perfect. But the primary objectives are those of the team, not the individuals.

"Right now I am not hoping for the Zamora but the league."

24 Apr 2008 :: Casillas:"Nobody has given us anything"
"Real Madrid has been the most consistent team, for that reason we are the leaders."

The goalkeeper of Real Madrid, Iker Casillas, was the guest in the "El Partido de la Una" organised by Onda Madrid. The Madrid goalkeeper analysed the white team as well as the near attainment of the Liga title. Casillas, nonetheless, acknowledges that the work is not finished yet and it is still necessary to fight until the title that the team "totally deserved" for their work during the whole season.

21 Apr 2008 :: Racing Santander 0 - 2 Real Madrid
Real Madrid gets 10 points ahead on the table with a convincing victory over Racing Santander, who was playing for a Champions' League spot.

Goals by Raul and Higuain.

Casillas:
“It’s an important victory, not just because we won three points, but because it increases our lead on opponents like Barcelona. We are happy to have won in such a difficult stadium. The first goal by Raúl calmed us down somewhat. Then we had two or three good chances to wrap it up, but Racing played hard and we knew that could do damafge of set pieces on such a small field. Our defense was great. We’re calm knowing we got out homework done”

“You can’t sound the victory bells just yet, although we’re only a small step away. We have everything going for us, but we can’t count our chickens before they hatch. We’ll wait to see what happens with our upcoming matches because we still face opponents who have a lot to play for. We’re close to winning the title and we cannot let it escape. We’ve been on top from the very start and I think we deserve to win the title again.”

18 Apr 2008 :: "We feel good about the match with Racing"
Iker Casillas is a true Madridista and all he wants is to win the League title to dedicate it to the fans. In an exclusive interview to Realmadrid.com, talked about the upcoming match with Racing Santander.
